Life Transitions

Dr. Nazanin Fathi, Ed.D., LMFT

When the ground shifts under you.

Even changes you chose can leave you unsure of who you are on the other side. Therapy gives that question time.

  • After a breakup or divorce

Grief, relief and confusion can all show up in the same week. There's room for each of them, and for working out what comes next.

  • Dating again, or for the first time

Young adults and newly single adults often want to understand their own patterns before repeating them with someone new.

  • Becoming a parent

A new baby or a growing family changes your sleep, your identity and your relationship, often all at once.

  • A move or a career change

Leaving a place, a role or a community can unsettle more than your schedule.

  • Coming out or changing how you live

LGBTQ+ adults are welcome to explore identity, family responses and new relationships at their own pace.

How sessions help

Transitions tend to stir up older questions: whether you're capable, whether you're allowed to want something different, what you owe the people around you. Dr. Fathi helps you separate the change itself from those older stories, so decisions come from where you are now.

Sessions can be individual or, when a transition affects a couple, joint. There's no set timeline for adjusting to a change, and the work moves at the pace that suits you.

Grief and Uncertainty

Not every change has a clear shape.

Some transitions involve loss: of a relationship, a role, a person or a version of your life you expected. Grief can arrive alongside relief, and uncertainty can last longer than you'd like.

Being newly single after a breakup or divorce, adjusting to parenting, or questioning your identity can all bring this up. You don't need to have it figured out to start.

Space to decide what matters

Therapy offers space to examine what matters to you now, and to respond to the change with more awareness instead of reacting on autopilot. That includes looking at how your history, relationships and beliefs shape the way this change feels.
